The short story Lost in Rini is about a terrifying night in the townships of the Eastern Cape. Events may have turned ugly had it not been for the work of lawyer Alistair Weekly, a Grahamstown pro-bono civil rights attorney fighting for poor wretches like those caught up in these events.

Shortly after the events described in the story, Alistair and his brother were tragically killed in a hail of gunfire on their way back from a fishing trip in the Transkei. The story of the events were revealed in the Truth and Reconciliation commission hearing after the establishment of the new South African democracy.
